124REPARATION AND INVITRO EVALUATION HPMC & PVA WITH INCORPORATED SILVER NANOPARTICLESHydrogels are three-dimensional (3D) materials that are capable of absorbing large amounts of water while maintaining their structural stability. Hydrogels have been studied in a range of biological fields due to their low interfacial tension, soft and tissue-like physical characteristics, improved permeability to subsized molecules, and controlled release of entrapped molecules. Due to their high surface-area-to-volume ratio and unique chemical and physical properties, silver nanoparticles have emerged as antibacterial agents. Silver nanoparticles with a diameter of 10–100 nm exhibited strong bactericidal activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. We synthesised silver nanoparticles with an average diameter of 60–70 nm using silver nitrate as a metal precursor and sodium citrate as a reducing agent. The nanoparticles were characterised using UV/vis spectroscopy. UV/vis spectra of silver nanoparticles exhibit a prominent surface plasmon absorption peak between 380 and 410 nm. Using silver nanoparticles, a successful attempt was made to synthesise and analyse HPMC hydrogel. It has been established that it meets nearly all of the requirements for a hydrogel.
